A 1 : 3 reward-to-risk does not make a trade good; it makes the maths honest. The question is whether the target is reachable in the time you are willing to hold. From this week's Daily Market Brief: Wholesale price indexes like the CGPI act as an early-warning system for consumer inflation, giving traders a window into cost pressures before they appear in headline CPI figures. Discussion: How do you choose a target — structure, a measured move, a fixed multiple of the stop, or something else? Answers from newer members are as welcome as answers from professionals — say which you are and nobody will assume. Educational discussion, not financial advice. Trading involves significant risk of loss.

On choosing targets, one approach I find useful to think through is starting from structure first: where would the idea be wrong, and where is the next obvious level of supply or demand. A fixed multiple of the stop is easy to model, but it can ignore whether price actually has room to travel before a reversal. Would you say the measured-move approach is more about the chart or more about a rule you can backtest?
