A fixed percentage shrinks risk after losses and grows it after wins; a fixed amount is simpler to review. Both work if they are written down and followed. I'm still learning, so forgive me if I have this wrong. From what I've read, a fixed percentage means you risk the same share of your account each time, so the dollar amount moves up and down with your balance. A fixed amount keeps the dollar risk the same every time, which seems easier to track in a journal. Does anyone know which one new traders usually start with, or does it mostly depend on account size?
